AKFIF Holds Second Edition of Inter-School Quiz Competition to Mark 6th Anniversary

The Adenike Kayode Fabunmi International Foundation (AKFIF), as part of its 6th Anniversary celebration, successfully hosted the Second Edition of its Inter-School Quiz Competition in Idanre, Ondo State. Held on June 10, 2025, the event brought together secondary schools across the community in a vibrant atmosphere of learning, impact, and celebration.

The program began on a patriotic note, as all participants rose for the National Anthem and the Ondo State Anthem, setting a dignified tone for the day. The hall was filled with excitement as students, teachers, guests, and members of the AKFIF team settled in for what promised to be a memorable event.

Delivering the opening address was the Chairperson of the AKFIF Education Committee, Mrs. Oluwabunmi Fabunmi Margaret, who also serves as the Ogun State Coordinator of the foundation. She warmly welcomed all schools and participants to the second edition of the quiz competition. In her address, she emphasized the purpose behind the initiative  to encourage academic excellence, nurture leadership in young people, and reward brilliance. She urged the students to take their education seriously and always strive for greatness, reminding them that knowledge remains a powerful tool for shaping their future.

Representing the convener, Mrs. Adenike Fabunmi, was her Personal Assistant, Faduyilemi Abayomi, who echoed the convener’s heartfelt greetings and reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to youth empowerment through education. In his remarks, Abayomi recounted some of the foundation’s remarkable achievements over the past six years — from scholarship support to outreach projects and empowerment programs across different states. He encouraged the students to believe in themselves and assured them that AKFIF is deeply invested in their success.

One of the special guests, Mr. Akinkuehin Raphael, commended the entire AKFIF team and praised the convener, Mrs. Fabunmi, for her selfless service to the community. He lauded her commitment to giving back and prayed for continued growth and expansion of the foundation’s vision. In the same vein, Mrs. Akinmola, a pioneer member of AKFIF, shared reflections on the foundation’s impact over the years. She encouraged the students to be bold, focused, and courageous as they embarked on the quiz journey, noting that AKFIF’s efforts are rooted in a genuine love for the community and a desire to uplift the younger generation.

Also present was Mr. Ganiyu Agbelusi, a representative of the late Oba of Idanre Kingdom. In his tribute, he expressed heartfelt appreciation to AKFIF for returning to its roots and giving back to its source of origin. He described the foundation’s educational support as a noble way of honoring the legacy of the land and applauded the initiative as a true reflection of service.

A total of seven schools participated in this year’s edition, each represented by four students and a teacher. The schools included: Methodist High School, Saint Joseph Catholic Grammar School, Ilemobola Girls High School, Baptist High School, Olofin Anglican Grammar School, C.A.C Grammar School, and Idanre High School. From each school, two students were selected to compete, while the remaining two served as supporters.

After the first round of the quiz, five schools advanced to the final stage: Saint Joseph Catholic Grammar School, Ilemobola Girls Grammar School, Olofin Anglican Grammar School, C.A.C Grammar School, and Idanre High School. The competition became more intense and exciting as students battled across topics such as current affairs, civic knowledge, general history, and more.

At the end of several thrilling rounds, Olofin Anglican Grammar School emerged the winner with 65 points, followed by Saint Joseph Catholic Grammar School with 59 points as the first runner-up, and Idanre High School with 47 points as the second runner-up. The winning schools were awarded cash prizes: ₦40,000 for first place, ₦30,000 for second, and ₦20,000 for third. Additionally, all participating schools received transportation support courtesy of the foundation.

Recognition was also given to outstanding individuals during the event. Adedoye Bidemi was celebrated as the Best Student of the Day, while Godwin Helen, Reymond Favour, and Akinmuyisetan Success were honored for their exceptional conduct and active participation as audience members. A dedicated teacher also received a special award, and the Principal of Saint Joseph Catholic Grammar School, the winner of the first edition, was recognized for consistent support and excellence.

In a touching highlight of the event, AKFIF presented a posthumous award to the late Owa of Idanre, honoring his contribution to education and community development. The gesture deeply moved the audience, reinforcing AKFIF’s values of honor, respect, and legacy.

The event concluded with the AKFIF Education Committee expressing heartfelt appreciation to all schools, guests, and volunteers. Prizes were officially presented by the Personal Assistant to the Convener, bringing the event to a cheerful and memorable close.

The 2nd Inter-School Quiz Competition was not just a contest of intellect  it was a celebration of values, a tribute to roots, and a bold reminder that education remains the strongest foundation for a brighter future. Once again, AKFIF reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to uplifting communities, one student at a time.
